Bordeaux is 'better at food than football'
18.11.2008
Although many Chelsea fans will be making the trip to the French city of Bordeaux next Wednesday, regular tourists may get more out of their trip this season. The city is largely protected by Unesco World Heritage, with over 350 historic monuments protected within the space of 147 hectares, as well as the churches of Saint Andre, Saint Michel and Saint Seurin, according to the Bordeaux Tourist Office.
However, Bordeaux is perhaps most prolific for its food and drink, with the city promoters highlighting a number of dishes which any ferry tourist should stop by and enjoy on their adventure through France.
Oysters from the Bassin d"Arcachon tops the list of culinary delights, alongside crispy pibales - or tiny eels - which are prepared in a Spanish style to match its closest neighbour.
This, of course, can be sampled with wines from around the area including reds from Graves, the Medoc and Saint Emilion de Pomerol.
