Ferries to France: Amsterdam could be brilliant New Year location

21.12.2009
People travelling via ferries to france could continue into the Netherlands and visit a city which is "vibrant and fun", according to one newspaper.

The Daily Express" Emily Garnham reported that Amsterdam is a location that offers beautiful sights, particularly in the yuletide period.

"With the gentle warmth of the winter sunshine on my face and dressed in layers to stave off the chill, I wander the cobblestoned streets past frosted railings adorned with bikes alongside near-frozen canals," she stated.

The expert added that over the Christmas period flocks of tourists are drawn to the Dutch city, which is famed for its relaxed laws and great nightlife.

Ms Garnham said that there are great transport links into and out of the city, which could help people get about the rest of western Europe.

The Hermitage Museum, in Amsterdam is not far away from the north of France, is located in a 17th-century building close to the Amstel river and has loaned pieces from St Petersburg"s State Hermitage Museum.
