Ferries to France: Close to snow-capped slopes
10.11.2009
Bumper snowfall has given people taking ferries to france an early season chance to get on the slopes in the country and partake in wintersports. There was around 20ins of snow in the last week in France and the Alps, with well blanketed runs being on offer at most of the resorts in the country.
Betony Garner, of Ski Club of Great Britain, told the Daily Telegraph: "We"ve seen some fantastic snowfalls across Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland, which is very unusual for this time of year."
The ski expert added that the wintery showers have been brought on by low temperatures and she said that the snowfall is leaving some resorts covered in a level of white stuff which is usually only seen in the middle of winter.
Arnaud Favet, the head of promotion at La Tania"s tourism office, recently said that the French resort is proving very popular with English tourists who want an alternative to Courchevel and Méribel.
