Ferries to France: Near to great resorts
01.12.2009
People taking ferries to france are close to ski resorts in the northern Alps which benefitted from a great season last year, according to one daily newspaper. The Independent said that France"s 6.6 per cent increase in visitors to ski resorts has helped to boost smaller areas such as Métabief and Plancher Les Mines in Franche-Comté.
"France had a great ski season in 2008-09. Conditions were excellent throughout most of the country - snow fell heavily and consistently cold weather meant that it persisted at high and low altitudes," it stated.
The newspaper added that one reason for the increase in visitors is the trend for more Europeans to choose France instead of the US as they attempt to save money.
In other news, the Daily Telegraph reported that France has around 500 quality resorts including some in the northern Alps which are well served by good public transport and remain popular with skiers from the UK.
