Mini-break business 'robust'
31.10.2008
Britons continue to go away on short breaks despite the uncertain economic climate, it has been revealed.Research published by Reportlinker.com indicates the mini-break market was worth £9.15 billion last year, with people in the UK going on 60 million trips.
The study found the most lucrative trips for travel operators were those to cities involving hotel stays, while holidays in the UK averaged an average of £150 and those abroad cost £250 exclusive of travel fares.
In a statement the news provider said: "A significant proportion said they needed short breaks to get away from their busy lifestyles. Issues such as safety and security and value for money were also much more significant for consumers than environmental concerns."
Earlier this month, Paul Havenhand, marketing director for caravan insurance firm Towergate Bakers, claimed a short break away from peoples "normally hectic lives" can be enough to recharge batteries.
He added that people view holidays as an important part of their yearly schedule.
