Ferries to France: Belgium beer still on tap
26.01.2010
People taking cross channel ferries will still be able to enjoy Belgian beer that was recently threatened with a blockade before management and unions reached a compromise. The respected tipples of breweries like Stella Artois, Jupiler and Hoegaarden were stopped from being exported by staff who were protesting about owners Anheuser-Busch InBev"s plans to cut 10 percent of its European workforce.
"After the blockade is lifted, the unions and management will start from scratch with meetings of the works council that will deal with problems site by site," union representative Tangui Cornu told AFP.
The action will stop now but the news agency reported that the strikers did manage to cut supplies to supermarkets and saw "guerrilla sales tactics" from rival brewers.
Tourism Flanders recently said that vacationers can enjoy a selection of activities in the region, including the Snow and Ice Sculpture festival in Bruges and the huge ice rink in nearby Brussels.
