Belgium offers lent celebrations

Brits looking for a different way to mark the start of lent could opt for a ferry trip to Belgium.The country will hold numerous events across the country to see in the start of the religious period, with the Binche Carnival unlikely to be topped for entertainment value.
One of the oldest festivals of its kind, the tradition is so highly thought of it has made its way onto the Unesco Heritage list.
Thousands of spectators line the streets to witness processions making their way through the area on Shrove Tuesday.
Costume balls, dancing, parties, musical performances and much more will be on show for those choosing a ferry trip to Belgium for this celebration.
Meanwhile, those unable to make it to Binche may consider visiting the Aalst Carnival, which is a three-day festival featuring equally outrageous celebrations, with music, processions, dance, sports and comedy rife throughout the event.
