Brits handed hints for Belgium breaks
16.06.2009
There are numerous customs Brits should adhere to to ensure they do not fall foul of the locals while on holiday in Belgium, according to a source.Jane Lasky, writing for examiner.com, compiled a list of the dos and don"ts for those heading on the ferry to Belgium.
One faux-pas to avoid is asking for the bill in a restaurant, as the writer advises that you should instead raise your hand and make eye contact with a member of staff instead.
Tourists should also make sure that they refrain from being loud, standing with their hands in their pockets and pointing at others, as these are all frowned upon.
Meanwhile, a 15 per cent service charge is usually added to food and drinks bills in Belgium and this should be topped up with a small tip, the website suggests.
There are also rules for those heading to the country on business, such as ensuring that an appointment is booked and wearing a dark suit.
If you manage to stick by all of these, then a good time in Belgium is sure to follow, especially if you visit attractions such as Antwerp Zoo and the Brewery Museum.
