Destination favourites in 2009 'will be European'
18.11.2008
The next 18 months will see destinations in Europe becoming a lot more popular with tourists from the UK, it has been stated. With the financial pressures of the current climate forcing people to dig much deeper for big expenditures, people may pull out of plans to invest in long-distance holidays to places such as the Far East and Australasia, according to Graham McKenzie of TravelMole.
Those taking the ferry to European destinations such as France or Belgium will likely benefit more from saving money in their choice of destination, with places closer to the UK helping a person cut down on travel costs.
"If we believe everything we hear in terms of the credit crunch then I think people will start to look carefully at where they go in terms of long haul," Mr McKenzie added.
Around 60 per cent of people said they will be spending part of the festive period in a different country, according to a recent survey by Kayak.co.uk.
