Ferries to France are popular with self-caterers
29.01.2010
People taking cheap ferries to France are increasingly choosing to live in self-catered accommodation instead of paying for hotels, according to a piece of research.Professional services provider PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) said that due to the economic crisis, more people have opted to take the cheaper option of camping, instead of renting a room.
David Chubb, a partner at PWC, said: "The advent of upmarket campsites and the squeeze on consumer spending have driven a cyclical and short-term shift to self-catering, camping and caravanning."
The expert added that the hotels which have been the worst affected by the trend are ones that are not affiliated to a big-name chain.
Prices in hotels could fall because of the trend toward self-catering properties, which might interest people thinking of taking ferries to france.
The International Living magazines Quality of Life Index recently showed that France is the top country in the world to live in, which could interest people staying in Cote d"Azur holiday homes.
