Smurf birthday bash finishes soon
17.10.2008
Spirited travellers wanting to go somewhere different this autumn could take a trip on the ferry to Belgium to celebrate the Smurf"s 50th birthday before it is too late. The Belgian Comic Strip Center is hosting the exhibition until November 16th and will display everything a cartoon fan will want to know about the Smurfs.
Set in the centre of Brussels in the Center"s distinctive "temple"-style building, which opened in 1989, the event will attempt to argue the individual weakness of Peyo"s characters brought them together to create a stronger community.
The Smurfs, promoters said, were "all different: hard-working or lazy, moralising or jokers. It is these differences that provide food for the stories when they don"t provoke them, that is. Their community is a collection of individuals".
Another famous Belgian cartoon, Herge"s Adventures of Tintin, is to be remade as a feature film by American director Steven Spielberg in conjunction with his New Zealand counterpart Peter Jackson.
