Ferries to France headed to world's best Champagne

12.11.2009
Many Britons will be hopping on ferries to france to sample the world"s best Champagne - Armand de Brignac.

The French tipple has recently been voted top in a taste test by Fine Champagne magazine which involved 1,000 of the world"s top wine critics and sommeliers.

Each person was asked to taste and review the different Champagnes, ranking each one on a 100-point scale. The testing was strict – meaning that if any of the two judges" scores varied by more than four points the brand was re-tasted.

Armand de Brignac Brut Gold was described as a surprise winner, beating better-known names such as Dom Perignon, Mumm Cuvee and Roederer Cristal.

The variety received 96 points out of the 100, with Fine Champagne editor-in-chief Pekka Nuikki describing it as "a fine, smooth and creamy Champagne with underlying power and great mineral freshness".

"It has everything a truly great Champagne can offer and the packaging - the distinctive, showy golden "ace of spades" bottle - serves as a brilliant example of Armand de Brignac"s courageous, successful branding," he added.

Respected wine critic Jancis Robinson recently described it as "extremely dense with a very stimulatingly tight bead".ADNFCR-1871-ID-19457700-ADNFCR
