Disneyland Paris could be venue for French Open
24.03.2010
Sports fans taking ferries to france could soon be heading to see the French Open at a rather bizarre location if new proposals are followed through. The event is traditionally held in Roland Garros but could be moved to Disneyland Paris because of infrastructure problems at its current home.
Gilbert Ysern, the general director of the French Tennis Federation, said that players like Roger Federer were not happy with some of the arrangements at last year"s tournament and even presented him with a list of gripes.
"We live in a very competitive environment. The three other Grand Slam tournaments improved a lot during the past 20 years and we are behind them ... both in terms of the services we can offer to the players and regarding the stadium facilities," he stated.
In the 2009 event, surprise finalist Robin Soderling was beaten by Federer with the Swiss player finally completing his collection of all four Grand Slams.
