Belgian eco date on the way
09.06.2009
Eco-friendly Brits will want to head on a ferry to Belgium later this year to support a major campaign.Between September 16th and 22nd Brussels will become the green capital of Europe thanks to Mobility Week.
Petrolheads need not apply as cars become a four-letter word for seven days and a range of activities are put on to encourage sustainability.
Brits heading on the ferry to Belgium during this week will find ample opportunities to enjoy a brisk walk through the country or they could hop on a bike and use pedal power to get about.
The centerpiece of the event comes on Sunday which is dubbed as being a car-free day, and this is something which its organisers say attracts a wealth of tourists to the country, with media interest also hotting up as Brussels takes the lead in being an eco-friendly city.
Belgium has a habit for embracing all things green, and visitors to Ghent will notice that there is a distinct lack of meat on the menu each Thursday.
This is because this day is Vegetarian Day, when everyone is encouraged to enjoy meat-free meals.
