Advice to keep children happy on long trips

23.06.2009
Parents have been given advice on how to keep their children entertained during long car trips, which can often come before or after a cross channel ferry ride.

While many youngsters will be excited during their time on a ferry to france, for example, it can often be a far less interesting experience for them sitting in the back of the car while the parents drive them to their destination.

As a result, Stena Line and child expert Gary Pope have come together in a bid to offer parents some hints and tips on how to stop the kids from getting bored in the car.

"Three absolute musts to have with you on a car holiday are the children’s favourite toys or cuddly toy, colouring books and a secret supply of mini surprises," said Mr Pope.

He continued: "The surprises can be used to portion out toys, books and games periodically, if and when the journey gets tedious or when arguments start in the back seat."

There are likely to be more people taking long trips in cars this year as a way to avoid flying and the cost of plane tickets.

A growing number of people are shunning flights in a bid to reduce their holiday expenses during the recession, meaning more could head on ferries to france and other locations in the car.
