Airline providers 'trying to get every last cent'
29.09.2008
An increase in oil prices and a drop in interest has forced many airline providers to charge more for their services, an organisation has stated, perhaps making the ferry a more viable option.James Fremantle of the Air Transport Users Council (AUC) said that it may be a bad situation for anyone hoping to fly over the winter as they may find airlines cutting the number of flights they have quite drastically.
As a result, he added, fares would rise due to a bigger shortage of space for passengers.
He continued: "It"s a difficult time for the airline industry, you can tell how competitive it is, volatile fares shows airlines are trying to get every last cent they can out of consumers."
According to the Amex Business Travel Monitor, which is taken out twice-yearly, the second quarter of 2008 marked a seven-year high for the average airfare of business travellers, driving the price by ten per cent on the same period of 2007.
