Brits should 'shop around' for cover
15.05.2009
If you want more cash to spend after a cross-Channel ferry trip you should shop around for travel insurance. That is the claim made by Confused.com, after the firm suggested people may shell out 500 per cent more for cover by just booking it with a travel agent.
Steve Williams, head of travel insurance for the website, says: "While holiday insurance is a must-have, it makes little sense to pay through the nose for it, especially when shopping around for a better deal is likely to save consumers money."
He adds that just because a person books a holiday with an agent, that does not mean they should also take out a policy with them.
By shopping around Brits can get more bang for their buck, leaving extra money aside which can be spent while they are on the holiday.
Brits heading on the ferry to Belgium this summer might want to use that cash to snap up tickets for events like the Rock Werchter and Royal Parc music festivals.
