Channel ferries: less opportunity for tourism in budget

25.03.2010
People taking cross Channel ferries could have received more of a boost from the government than they did in the last year’s Budget, according to one expert.

Kate Kenwood, executive director at AITO, said that Chancellor Alistair Darling missed clear opportunities to encourage people to invest in ferry trips to France and other holidaying options.

"By reducing VAT people have more money in their pockets to spend on holiday - domestic or foreign - that"s a no-brainer. It was a chance to help everyone in the industry and has just been overlooked," she stated.

The expert added that Air Passenger Duty keeps increasing frequently, but people who take ferries across the Channel can avoid the extra charge.

Holidaymakers who do visit Normandy will struggle to enjoy all the activities and sights that the region offers, according to the New York Times, which said the place has great sights to visit, like Mont St Michel.
