Cross channel ferries: Travel networking could work
16.02.2010
People taking cross channel ferries could soon be finding out about destinations like Ghent and Antwerp through travelling network websites, according to one expert. The Guardian"s Vicky Baker said that travel networking sites can work but at the moment they are too noisy, with too many people posting comments and trying to get their point across.
"Within its first two weeks, the Secret London group on Facebook amassed over 180,000 members. The idea of sharing "lesser known great places to see in London" clearly struck a chord and was quickly replicated around the world," she stated.
The writer added that ning.com allows travellers to create their own specific networks, focusing on certain cities or regions.
In other news, the Times recently included Ghent in its top ten weekend break roundup and said that the city is a charming setting for holidaymakers looking to experience 48 hours away from the hustle and bustle of modern life.
