'Good news' for Brits heading into Europe
15.06.2009
Brits heading on ferry holidays in France may well be able to do so with a few extra euros in their pockets.Recently, the pound reached a record high for the year against the euro, which means that those taking a cross-Channel trip will see their money go that little bit further.
Marc Cogliatti, currency strategist at HiFX, commented that this will help consumers.
He said: "In the grand scheme of things, the pound is now 15 per cent higher at present, compared to where we were at the start of the year. That is obviously good news for holidaymakers."
Mr Coglatti added that in recent months the weak sterling meant that holidays in Europe appeared to be expensive due to the cost of items, however, he said, that things will now seem cheaper.
Those heading on ferry trips to France will have no shortage of options when it comes to finding somewhere to sped the extra euros that they will have left over thanks to the strong pound.
Those finding themselves in this position may want to visit attractions such as the Louvre, the Bordeaux Opera or the Market on the River.
