Brits 'more flexible with travel plans due to recession'
17.06.2009
Holidaymakers taking ferries to france could be flexible with their travel arrangements, it has been claimed.According to research from Skyscanner, just 16 per cent of travellers have a fixed destination and date for their holiday, while 28 per cent improvise to save pennies.
Skyscanner co-founder and director Barry Smith commented: "The recession has turned us into a nation of bargain hunters and adventurers. Rather than setting our hearts on a single destination and fixed dates, more of us are now happy to take our holidays when and where we can find the best value.
"Brits have become more flexible and open to new destinations - as long as the price is right."
The figures could be good news for cross channel ferry services, with Brits travelling to France with an open mind and no set plans.
In related news, an industry expert has said that more and more Brits are opting for self-catered accommodation when on holiday.
Peter Smith of Travelsupermarket.com credits the money-saving approach to cash flow problems caused by the global recession.
