Lovers of pedal power will want to get on their bikes and take the ferry to france this summer after the country was named among the top places for cycling.A team of experts told the Guardian their favourite locations for stretching their legs with a cycle, with France featuring twice in the list.
Olympic gold-medal winner Chris Boardman singled out Lake Annecy as his top pick for a bike ride.
He said that this region benefits from breath-taking mountains, fantastic restaurants, quiet countryside and bustling towns.
Mr Boardman added: "All these aspects together make the Alps the most relaxing place I know."
If that was not enough to tempt holidaymakers into a ferry trip to France, Tracy Moseley, professional downhill mountain biker on the Trek World Racing team, told the newspaper that the country is home to her favourite destination as well.
She cited Portes du Soleil, commenting that it is a "fantastic place for a biking holiday".
Those heading on the ferry to France can cycle all day, by night enjoying attractions such as the Bordeaux Opera season and the Orleans jazz concerts.
