France offers 'higher standard of living'
29.12.2008
Those choosing to move to France will enjoy a higher standard of living than their British friends and family, the latest research has suggested.According to a study by forecasters Oxford Economics, the UK will fall behind several other nations in terms of the economy.
While Britain topped the list of G6 nations in 2007, France has now overtaken it with the recession leading to falling average national income.
The weakening strength of the pound also means expats choosing the start a new life with a short cross-channel ferry trip could enjoy a higher standard of living in their adopted home.
It is claimed by Adrian Cooper, managing director for the researcher, that the results could lead to Brits no longer being the "richest people on the beach" when they are holiday, which in turn could end in consumers opting for cheaper trips abroad.
Earlier this month, Brice Bonato, managing director of Sextant French Property Agents, claimed would-be expats could get some good deals on property in the country.
