Brits cut cost of holiday, but still heading abroad
15.04.2009
People will look at cutting down the cost of their holiday rather than give up the annual break altogether, meaning ferries to france may boom.Cuts people are willing to make include downgrading accommodation, having a one-week break instead of a two-week holiday and cutting out costly day trips, according to research from travel agency On The Beach.
Simon Cooper, chief executive of the company, says families are not letting the credit crunch get the better of them.
"Cutting out these luxuries means consumers can still escape the doom and gloom of the financial crisis and unwind in the sun," he adds.
Of the people questioned by On The Beach, 43 per cent said they were still going to head to their favourite European destinations this year, but some may cut costs by getting a ferry to france.
Another way to cut the cost of a break is to get a cross channel ferry to France, as Sean Tipton, a spokesperson for ABTA The Travel Association, recently said the rising cost of flying may put some people off.
