Ferries to France: German Christmas markets designed to encourage fun
17.12.2009
People taking ferries to france are near to markets which one expert said were started to encourage locals to mix and be merry on long winter nights rather than sitting inside.Steffi Fasora, who works at medieval markets across the Rothenburg region, told the Associated Press that the Germanic events are a place that bring people together and create a friendly atmosphere.
"People are usually sitting in the house and being depressed. That is why we set up a Christmas market - to bring the people out here, to have fun, to meet each other, to spend their money of course! This is what it"s all about," she said.
Visitors can also see traditional tradesmen, like cobblers and tailors, peddle their wares at the events, which take place throughout the country.
The Daily Mail recently reported that Cologne and Berlin are packed with different markets which vacationers can enjoy and explore.
