People taking cross channel ferries could visit a Belgian city which has been name-checked by Sir Paul McCartney as being an example of a vegetarian-friendly destination. The Beatles songwriter and bass player said that Ghent is a good place for green-minded people because it encourages residents to go vegetarian for one day per week.
"Sir Paul McCartney name-checked the quaint and ancient Belgian city of Ghent yesterday in support of his campaign to reduce the amount of meat we eat," stated the Aberdeen Press and Journal.
The city introduced the meatless day in May this year and Sir Paul backed the move and recommended that the world follows Ghent"s example.
Other activities which visitors to Ghent can take part in include the Ghent Festivities, which take over much of the medieval centre of the city for ten days during July every year and include parades and jousting tournaments.
