Ghent Film Festival approaches

Fans of the silver screen may be interested to know that the Ghent Film Festival kicks off this October.A selection of internationally-recognised directors and movies will be featured between October 7th and 17th in the historic city, easily accessible by a cross channel ferry to Belgium.
Beginning in 1974, the film extravaganza will feature Vicky Cristina Barcelona - the newest film by Woody Allen - as well as Darren Aronofsky"s The Wrestler, which won this year"s Golden Lion award.
The World Soundtrack Awards, which will close the festival on Saturday October 18th, is described as the "most prestigious" ceremony of its kind in the world and may appeal to music and film fans alike.
"Ghent has grown into a meeting point for established and up-and-coming musical talent and ever greater numbers of festivals play soundtracks from the wings," a spokesperson for the film festival noted.
Historically the largest cloth producer in Europe, Ghent is the home to a large student population and was described as a "medieval-era powerhouse" by Lonely Planet.
