Ghent has plenty of festivals
19.11.2009
People looking forward to their summer holiday could visit the Flemish city of Ghent which has plenty of festivals to entertain visitors in the summer months. The Ghent Festivities take over much of the medieval centre of the city for ten days during July every year and include parades and jousting tournaments.
"Because of the unique and contemporary nature of our organisation we seek constant innovation. Moving boundaries through creation [...] this [is] all for one simple purpose: bringing people together in shared amazement," the International Street Theatre Festival (ISTF) website stated.
The ISTF is one of four events which occur over the ten-day period, with the others being the Blue Note Records Festival, the International Puppet Buskers Festival and the dance bash 10 Days Off.
VisitFlanders.co.uk recently said that the year-round flea market in Ghent is well worth a visit and is often quiet as people flock to nearby rivals like Antwerp and Bruges.
