Ghent to host Canadian music festival
07.11.2008
Ghent is to celebrate the music of Montreal this December through the Etoiles Polaires Muziekfestival. The centre of the Belgian city will start hosting the event from Tuesday December 3rd before finishing on Saturday 6th, with organisers commenting that the musical get-together will highlight the range of famous acts that have emerged out of the French-speaking city in Canada.
Planners explained their choice: "The recent breakthrough of rock bands such as Arcade Fire, Patrick Watson and Gonzales have really put Montreal on the music map."
"What typifies the scene (and the city) is its non-conformism."
Up-and-coming artists, experimental projects and more established bands will be showcased and a number of new collaborations will be set up.
ferry travellers may be drawn in by the architecture of Ghent as well, according to travel writer Mark Elliott of Lonely Planet, who said the city is at its most spectacular when the sun sets over the canal houses and church spires.
