Cross channel ferries: Cash and plastic are both needed
29.01.2010
People taking cross channel ferries need to make sure that they cover all bases and take both cash and plastic when heading out on a foreign trip, according to one expert.Sarah Munro, head of Post Office Travel Services, said that some people can get into trouble when they try to pay for everything on plastic in a foreign country.
"When travelling abroad we would always recommend that travellers cover all eventualities by taking a mix of foreign currency together with plastic. It is important to carry some cash to pay for taxis and drinks and in many destinations it will be needed to buy goods," she stated.
The expert added that the problem with cards is that in some restaurants holidaymakers cannot use them or they could face charges.
People travelling to France via Eurostar were left stranded for hours after the service they were on suffered a power failure and took eight hours to get from London to Paris in November.
