According to a source, vacationers searching for the latest fashions should consider Antwerp. The Belgian city, which can be visited through a ferry trip, is home to some of the finest names in the industry and a raft of avant-garde clothing, reports Christina Passariello in her blog.

Antwerp's place as a fashion capital is being boosted by world renowned brands namely Ann Demeulemeester and Dries Van Noten, which are opening outlets in the region.

Robert Burke, Bergdorf Goodman's former fashion director, comments to the blog the area's fashion houses offers consumers with what they want.

He said: "They"re [collections by Belgian designers] tough, edgy, austere, and the consumer really wants to go in that direction today. It"s the right kind of aesthetic for this time."

Meanwhile, travel guide Lonely Planet claims tourists making a ferry trip to Antwerp will encounter Belgium"s "most underrated destination", due to its rich history and wealth of attractions.
