French towns have 'brilliant local markets'

14.09.2009
People taking ferries to france can sample some brilliant local markets, according to one expert, who said the stalls are awash with gift ideas and fresh food.

Food editor of House & Garden and Good Health magazines, Loukie Werle, told The Australian that the Lourmarin market in the Provence region was especially interesting and provided her with plenty of gifts for loved ones.

She stated: "I buy sourdough bread, lovely Laguiole cheese knives to bring back as gifts and a few deep-yellow and green-glazed pottery bowls."

The editor added that Lourmarin is one of her favourite places in the world to enjoy a cocktail at sunset and said it is also one of the most beautiful villages in Provence.

Holidaymakers taking ferries to Dunkerque may be tempted to stop off at the NAME music festival which is held in Lille this September and will bring big-name DJs like Andrew Weatherall to the region.
